I met Daniel Jackson today!!! Okay, so I met the actor who plays (played) him. His accent is soooo strong in real life.. and he's grown his sideburns and a beard.. he looks weird. I was hoping for a droolfest, but unfortunately it was not to be. But I did get a new calendar to cover up the mold on my wall.

I also went to a cool agency. It's callcentre work, but if things go well, it may mean a foot in the door for something else. Cross fingers for me.

Ok, so I'm sad, but the Rat refered me to this page and now I'm rating mobos. What a fantastic page ;)

Anyway, that isn't my reason for blogging yet again today (or is this a new day), but I saw Bridget Jones' Diary finally at last. And it was fantastic. It was nice to see Hugh Grant in the bad guy role for a change.. especially when the good guy was a typical Hugh Grant character. And the out-takes were cool (we rented to DVD). The point is.. WATCH IT!!.

Oh, we also bought Shrek for a tenner (ex-rental).. what a bargain!

I can't believe I never blogged about the football. Well, not only did Spurs beat Chelsea for the first time in 12 years, but they also won 5-1!!! :) Which means that they are now in the Worthington Cup Final. Which is Pretty Damn Cool.

On another note, saw Long Time Dead today. A bad, British horror movie. It was yet another movie that had potential, but never reached it. Which was a shame, cause it would have been nice to see another good British film. There are too few of them around.

Excitement of excitement this week. Firstly I've done loadsa stuff towards job hunting for a change. Gotta fill in a load of application forms tomorrow too. Secondly, my horrid black toe nail *finally* came off. Now I have half a nail there.. half of it normal, the other half weirdy. It doesn't seem to be growing into my toe, so that's good. Now to see if it grows back properly, and to hope it doesn't hurt like hell when I walk.

That's all my excitement. Except for I've been playing with my laptop. Firstly the CMOS battery was low.. hope it doesn't die soon (it's probly cause I haven't used it in months). Then I managed to get my important files off so I fdisk'd it.. no longer any windows on it. Then I tried to install slackware. After a few attempts I've given up. I've got passed a few hurdles.. but I keep coming up with more. Will try again when I haven't got web access *grin*.

You can tell you've gone totally crazy when you start talking about putting a beowulf cluster in the boot of a car. Ok, so that's not the only way to tell you've gone crazy, but it's one of them. It's one of those discussions certain types of people would have.. and I guess I've just realised I'm one of those types.. and I don't even know much about beowulf clusters. It's just one of those buzz words that you hear around lug meetings, etc, etc. However, doing it would be totally cool. Just need another 9 or so laptops to fill up the car.. a few ethernet cards, and some battery replacements.. and then we're away *grin*. Okay, okay, so I'm sad.

I saw Black Hawk Down. I would recomment that other people don't. It had good effects, good action. But no plot, no character depth. It was a film with a stunning cast.. but frankly, they might as well have been nobodies (except nobodies won't sell a film) for the amount of acting they did. The film taught me something.. it taught me about an event in a war in Somalia that I don't even remember. And it reminded me that I don't really like Ridley Scott as a director. I would have liked it to have caused me to cry.. to feel something for the characters. But there were so many characters, that all looked alike with their uniforms and short hair, that I couldn't always remember who was who. At the beginning, and in the trailers, you expect to be following Josh Hartnett's team around.. but you spend so much time following others too that you don't really feel anything for his guys. The only people that I felt anything for were two guys who got left behind for a while. I realise that they wanted to portray the events accurately.. but it was more like a gruesome documentary than a film. I expect a film to have a some form of integral plot or meaning, some character or characters that you can connect to (or anti-connect to). Something that brings the film together as a whole. Not lots of confusing action and lots of random people getting hurt, or killed, or saving others. Anyway.. it wasn't that good a film. Get my point?

Saw another two films this weekend. Yesterday saw "Behind Enemy Lines" with Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson. It was cool, although the story has been done before. And at one point Wilson did a face and I couldn't help but think "blue steel" (go watch Zoolander if you don't understand that reference). I also was very disatisfied when Wilson's character decided not to leave the navy after all. I guess that was the point of the film, and you couldn't expect it to go in a different direction really. But it still disappointed me.

Today's film was "Rockstar". Which was immensely fun.. Mark Wahlberg was great as expected. Jennifer Aniston was pretty damn good, although her part was pretty small. Guess who one of the producers were... George Clooney. Was I surprised? Of course not. The best bit however has to be the outtakes. Wahlberg was on stage in his rockstar gear and someone put on "Good Vibration".. he cracked up.. and then at one point started breakdancing. A heavy-metal star breakdancing has to be one of the weirdest things ever. And definitely hilarious. Go watch it :P

Finally saw the first (double) episode of the latest series of Buffy. It was cool. Also got to watch the first ep of Enterprise on Monday. Not sure if I'd already mentioned that.. but I have now. It was good.. except the title music (which was ok but out of place on a Star Trek series.. I guess that was the point). Next week we get all new Angel and Dark Angel. So it seems that, along with Star Gate, my TV schedule is soon to be full. Hoorah! I can't wait until all that TV next week. Shame I don't really like watching TV.. but I can't miss my sci-fi serieses.

I've seen three films since I last blogged.. so I thought I'd better blog again. Although this may be slow in typing up since I'm having one or two problems with my system. X doesn't seem to like many colours anymore.. or at least.. not when I use icewm. Trying to solve it right now.. but it doesn't seem to make any sense..

The first film I saw was Twelve Monkeys. Finally. It was very cool. Bruce Willis again surprised me. He was actually very good. And it was nice to see Madeleine Stowe in something (the only other film I remember her from was Bad Girls).

Second we went to see The Last Castle at the cinema. A very good Robert Redford film. That's too good films he's done recently. I'd say that this one was better than Spy Game IMHO. I was almost in tears at the end. And the whole cast was fantastic.

Finally Serendipity. Yet another John Cussack love story. A very interesting one.. interesting in that he and the leading lady barely spent more than a quarter of the movie in the same scene. It was good. The actress was (I think) Kate Beckinsdale. I really liked it. Ok, so it's kinda been done before (I remember a film with Sandra Bullock (?) about love and destiny and stuff).. although this was done in a very interesting manner.

Anyway, that is 3 films I'd recommend if you've done seeing LOTR a million times.. which reminds me.. I really have to see that again.

Not here to post anything interesting. Well, actually I am. Just a few interesting links I discovered on Geeknews. Two I will link directly, the third I will link the Geeknews page because that explains the importance.. or stupidity.. of the link from it.

So first: Save Unicom.com .. basically.. this guy has the domain unicom.com, and has had it for several years. Now a company wants it.. and is suing for it. It's scandelous and I hope the guy wins the case. If you think you can do anything to support him (see the site), then please do so.

The second is the South Park site. Apparently you can get the first 2 ever eps from their site now.. South Park Studios.

And the final one from Geeknews. Check out what they say first.. then maybe read the article they are refering to for yourself: A Rant

I'm trying desperately to think of something interesting to say.. but can't. However I thought I'd blog just for the sake of it. Although I'm not sure whether or not I'll be able to upload this cause the dalnet server seems a little flakey today.

Watched a cool film on TV last night. A John Carpenter horror.. one of the few horror's I like. It stared the guy from Jurassic park (who's name has just fled my mind), and was had a title involving the word "mouth".. I'm sure that's enough for a good sleuth to track it down on the IMDB, cause right now I can't be arsed to do it for you. Anyway, it was a good film.. not really scarey.. but definitely a "psychological" horror. Weird ending.. but then that's always good.

Other than that.. not been up to much. I managed to become one of the people with the most different nicks in IRCbar, shortly before the stats page got changed. It now updates every 3 hours, which is cool, but no longer has that feature *sob*.. still.. I've made the 14th (I think) top talker.. which is good enough for me I guess.. I'm a statoholic, and bringing others down with me :)

The hallway is still dark and depressing.. it hasn't been cleaned yet.. and the smell of smoke still wafts into our flat.. but then, I guess I should be happy that we still have a flat (even if we shouldn't be in here cause the fire alarm isn't working.. not that it's been working for quite a long time).

Anyway, I'm gonna stop rambling for the mo. If I think of anything uninteresting to say then I'm sure I will blog again.

Oh.. that's one thing.. there is a church called CummingFirst in Georgia.. how very amusing.

Tuesday, January 01, 2002

Well, for once I have something newsworthy to say.. unfortunately. Not all that long after midnight, the other half heard glass breaking and went to check it out. Only to see a fire that seemed to be coming from the flat downstairs. After pulling out the modem from the phone line to call the firebrigade (much to my chagrine) we went downstairs and waited with the girl from one of the other flats, for the firebrigade to arrive. Two engines turned up, by which time smoke was billowing out of the house. After a while we were led into the warm cab of the fire engine, whilst waiting for a red cross van to come so that they could look after us. Although they were not needed for now.

Apparently, the TV in the ground floor flat (which was empty for xmas holidays) caught fire.. and is now a lump of melted plastic. Their flat is absolutely full of smoke, and flat 2, which was also unoccupied and so had to be forced open, is also a little smokey. We got off lightly, as did the other girl in the house. A little smokey to smell, and a cold house cause we've left all the windows open. But we're otherwise ok. Still, not the way we planned to spend new year.. and we're incredibly relieved we were all awake at the time.. if we hadn't been.. well.. I probly wouldn't be here typing this..
